Many bodybuilders have reached legendary status in the sport, but some of the most well-known and influential legends of bodybuilding are:
- Arnold Schwarzenegger is perhaps the most well-known bodybuilder of all time. He won the Mr. Universe title when he was 20 years old and went on to win seven Mr. Olympia championships. He is also a former Governor of California and an actor.
- Lou Ferrigno is best known as the Hulk in the television series of the same name, but he is also a great bodybuilder. He won two Mr. Universe titles and finished second in the Mr. Olympia competition on multiple occasions.
- Ronnie Coleman: Coleman, who has won eight Mr. Olympia championships, is generally regarded as one of the finest bodybuilders of all time. He is well-known for his enormous stature and amazing strength.
- Lee Haney: Mr. Olympia winner Lee Haney is noted for his symmetrical and visually attractive body. He is also a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist.
- Dorian Yates: Yates is recognized for his enormous bulk and muscularity, having won six Mr. Olympia championships. In bodybuilding, he is credited with popularizing the "mass monster" aesthetic.
