I’m on a serious budget these days and one of the things that I had to cut was buying dextrose because it’s expensive in Japan. What are you guys think about just substituting plane table sugar or brown sugar in my intra-workout drink?

Very good question, I'm curious to see what responses you may get, especially with some of the guys that have put a little research into intra-workout simple carbs. Have you experimented with it yet? I like Tang, and I get a 4lb container of powdered Tang from the grocery store and mix water with it. Tang's main ingredient is just straight sugar. I don't use Tang all the time, but when I do, it works for me. Insulin doesn't care where the glucose comes from, if there is glucose in the bloodstream, slin is going to shuttle it into the muscles.

I’ve been doing it for about the past five weeks and it seems to work pretty good so far. I’m bulking at the moment so I am gaining a little bit of fat but it doesn’t seem to be any different than the dextrose that I used.

there is an older guy who collects watches and posts them on proM, he is a veteran and in excellent shape and has lived in japan last 20 years, its not gunsmith its another guy, we are friends on IG I cant remember his name but he probably could help

I know who you’re talking about, he’s a great guy. But we’re both in the same boat.

As for an update as to how sugar works. Basically I figured out that my body will tolerate about 30 g of sugar with a workout. With dextrose I could do 90 g no problem but with sugar anything over 30 g and it just turns my stomach to shit. Can’t even eat a post workout.

So an answer to my own question after experimenting with it for about three months yes it works just fine but you can’t push the amounts too much without upsetting your stomach.
