So I've heard a lot of different opinions on benching or doing dumb bell press. I have switched it up but I personally feel better with dumb bells. The bench maybe cause I'm older puts a lot of stress on my wrist no matter how I adjust. Just wondering what works for everyone here

First off, Always listen to your body, pick the moves that feel the best and you love doing. It doesn't matter what everyone else is doing and says. So that being said, I love incline on the smith, bench set at #2 and flat bench dumbell press. And then cable flys with push-ups. Being 46 years old, thats what works for me and my shoulders feel great. And as far as shoulders. Overhead press aren't necessary, I dont give a shit what anyone says, that's what fucked my shoulders, I haven't done them in years and my shoulders are one of my body parts.

Great read I definitely need to start doing push ups more

I love it as a superset with either cables or pec dec flies! Great pump as a finisher!

I don’t do flat bench anymore it never felt right. Now it’s DB ‘s or machines that converge and flys with some sort of cable machine. My chest has always grown easy for me and it can overpower my physique so I don’t train it hard anymore.
That's awesome yea I recently switched to dumb bell press just feels good

Since tearing my labrum 4yrs ago dumbbells have been a much better option for me. Although I still have issues with my shoulder it’s just never the same. I will say though during a bulk I love to push myself and get back on Flat BP and push it back up just for the hell of it. I do agree with Durro that including BP is great for building the upper even with a smith machine.

This is a good thread!
DB’s for me feel best for sure vs flat/bar shoulder pain. Problem for me is the sensation of L/R arm motion unevenness.

I tore my right peck about 10 years ago doing incline bench. Worst injury ive every had

☝️ Everything Durro said in his two posts. I gave up standard flat benching when I stopped competitive powerlifting years ago. Lots of dumbbell work, especially pec flyes with machines added in. I'm like Durro, my chest can overshadow other body parts so I don't train it for size, aesthetics only.
