100% agree with this, gym culture has changed so drastically since when I first got started. I started out in the early 80's, there was an unspoken etiquette you quickly learned or else you were told get your shit together or get out. I had experienced guys take me under their wing and show me everything about training and being in a real gym. I grew up around Pittsburgh, PA, I frequented gyms that were the real deal, one in particular was in the basement of a V.F.W. and this place put out more world champions and record holders in multiple disciplines than just about any other gym around the country at the time. You got your shit together quickly and then you built respect from everyone and before you knew it everyone in that gym was your training partner helping you out with spots and encouragement. You literally threw iron around in those days, clanging plates was the music playing behind the beat-up speakers that played the current day hits. It was a fraternity type of environment; you were expected to show up and everyone showed up religiously to train.
