Hello and welcome to the Official Old Guys Thread!

I have seen quite a few older lifters joining the forumn lately. I thought I would create a spot where we can discuss issues specific to our age range where we can provide some individual support and bust some freaking chops.

This is our spot for everyone 40+ who's into bodybuilding, PEDs, and living a healthy lifestyle. It's more than just lifting weights; it's about balancing our fitness goals with family, career, and all the other aspects of life.

Here's what we'll focus on:

  • PEDs and Supplements: Finding what's effective and safe for our age.
  • Training Techniques: Share workouts that fit into our busy schedules.
  • Nutrition & Health: Tips on eating right for muscle and overall wellness.
  • Balancing Act: Managing fitness, family, and career. Let's discuss how we juggle it all.
Whether you're a long-time bodybuilder or just getting into it, this thread is where we can support and learn from each other. Let's keep the conversation positive and constructive.

Can't wait to exchange ideas and experiences with you all!

Let's breath some life into this thread and see if others are interested.

I am not looking for applause or congratulations. I am hoping to start a conversation about fitness, training, health, and the tools we might use to help us achieve our goals as we get older.

I wanted to share my transformation journey, which started about 18 months ago. I was at a low point—morbidly obese at 284 lbs and 5'7", pre-diabetic, with serious health issues like pitting edema, a fatty liver, and on the verge of high blood pressure. My life was a cycle of poor decisions, from a harmful relationship with alcohol to neglecting my physical health. At 48, during a routine check-up, my doctor suggested bariatric surgery but failed to address the root causes—my nutrition, fitness, and overall lifestyle.

Frustrated by this, embarrassed and offended that my best option was surgery, I left his office determined to take charge of my own fate. That led me to a local weight loss clinic where I started on Semaglutide. Despite my initial embarrassment, this was a turning point. It wasn't just about shedding pounds but redefining who I was: a leader, a family man, someone who could control his destiny.

I quit drinking, which I had been doing daily for over a decade, and threw myself into learning about men’s health, nutrition, training and particularly the impact of low testosterone. My findings were eye-opening, and I eventually sought help from a men's hormone clinic. Discovering my total testosterone was at 179 was a wake-up call. Starting testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) brought profound changes—increased energy, a boosted libido, and a newfound zest for life and fitness.

Fast forward to now, I’ve lost 80 lbs, gained significant muscle, and am in the best shape of my life at 50. Training has become a five-day-a-week habit, and I’ve started exploring additional tools to enhance my results. I'm not just losing weight anymore; I'm reshaping my body and mind.

I'm here to grow with this community, share my experiences, and maybe even offer some guidance along the way. Thanks for welcoming me into the fold!

Over the years have done a pretty good job at taking care of myself. But now at 54 I realize I need to be a little more diligent with taking care of myself and my overall health.
I slacked and am making up for lost time. I speak often with a young guy who works for me, jacked. He is open about his PED use. I just shake my head. Never at this age would I consider running so hard. I am realizing that sometimes less is more and less can yield great outcomes with some time.

+1

A recent Achilles tendon tear has driven home that point to me. I now have to rethink my training as I'm going to be turning 60 in some days so planning to go lighter and come up with good alternatives to exercises I feel I'll have to abandon.

Yes this is a very good thread!

Different folks with different chemistries and drug metabolisms can accept different doses without harm or foul. Some people can use 150-350mg of any anabolic per week, once a week, and respond like a 10-Cylinder Race car. Some folks’ metabolisms can destroy compounds as quickly as they can get them into themselves and require daily doses at much greater volume/week in order to feed that same 10-Cylinder Race car. And sadly, some folks can take all the damn gear in the world and still look natty :/ …they’re total non-responders. Just something to think about. No two bodies are the same.

What an inspiration, I am 57 and just joined this group. I started trt about 2 months ago. Only at 140 units a weeks right now. After a few years off from lifting I decided to make a return when I started the trt. Amazing how much better I feel and the motivation to lift again. On another note my strength is returning but my size is depressing. I can't wait to read about all the new things in the lifting world as far as training and supplements. I think this thread is a great ideal. 👍

I was just about to post about starting some TRT when I saw this thread for 40+. First of all, GREAT JOB! "MasterofPuppets". Congrats on your making the lifestyle change and your results accordingly. I am 53 and much in need of some TRT as it seems. Feeling rough at times and never experienced anything like it until the last couple of years. This is my catalyst to get with the program. What I want to ask is what everyone may think of what a "low" testosterone level may be? I am aware of the losses thru aging and that what is considered clinically low is about 300ng/dl. Does anyone know anything else about this? I went in today and got labs for free Test ( will get results in a few days supposedly ) and am going to do some TRT regardless of the outcome because I am feeling low. I think some of you can understand. Probably will do a regular cycle of Test. Anyone got any advice on the cycle or a different method of TRT?

Kevinator, I too have been m.i.a. for a few years and need some trt bro. my question for you is...Did the trt make you feel well enough enough to lift again, you think? or were you already back before the trt and if so, how long? My little workouts have been brutal to me bro and it has been discouraging. Never hurt so much in my life. It will not stop me but I was hopeful the trt got you back into the gym so to speak. follow?

Man, honestly, I had no motivation before the trt. Once after a few weeks of trt I just felt the want to go back to the gym. Hard to explain but man I don't want to go back where I was before.

OOps. anyway, did you already tell me you were on 140units a week? Can you tell me how many mg/week of T and was it Cyp, Prop or E?

61 this year I may need a master's section lol!!

I still run a per strong cycle about twice a year . But long trt in between.

I do higher protein intake these days .with food not shakes .

I still train pretty hard but I'm not trying to impress anybody anymore so I do lot beast mode training 15,12,8,8,12,15 with a medium weight.

Now I keep my cardio to hit in am and I lift in pm .

I also don't go to the gym anymore I have a garage gym now.

No really family to speak of either they passed . I didn't have kids . I do regret that myself . I was married years ago but that didn't work out so I just didn't do it again . I'm lonely sometimes but that's what the strip club is for lol. I do have a girlfriend from time to time but they want to move in and that puts a end to that . Guess I'm just a loner.

Damn brother, this made me sad. I have a similar story, 54, no kids and never married. Numerous girlfriends over the years, almost married a couple of times. Lived with a few of the girlfriends but live by myself right now. I currently have a great girlfriend going on 4 years as of July. At some point we'll get a place together, but her youngest needs to graduate to adulthood first, we have about three years to go, give or take. When I was young growing up, never saw my life like this, but overall, I guess I can't complain, I've had experiences in life most will never have.

I get it Jaxz, at least you are taking care of yourself and not a pre-diabetic, sitting around moping about life situations. You get on the horse and ride and that is to be admired. Rock on jaxz, keep up the good work.

I just got test results back on Test levels. My Free test was on the low end and the Free test levels in the blood were not only deficient but damn near non-existent. Now it is imperative that I start TRT. Man am I looking forward to feeling better . Can I get a Hell yeah?
Hell yeah go for it and TRT be a game changer.
